Usher and H.E.R. ‘Risk It All’ on New Song

Usher and H.E.R. have unveiled “Risk It All,” the second track from The Color Purple soundtrack, scheduled for release on December 15 through Warner Bros. Pictures, WaterTower Music, and gamma.

H.E.R. took on the production of this piano-driven ballad, collaborating with Jimmy Napes on its composition. In “Risk It All,” the duo explores the challenges within their relationship, boldly committing to maintaining their love despite the uncertainties. Lines such as “feeling like I’m bound to fall” encapsulate the blend of courage and trepidation. This follows the release of Alicia Keys’ “Lifeline,” the lead single from the same soundtrack, released on November 27.

The soundtrack boasts a star-studded lineup, including Fantasia, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Missy Elliott, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, Halle Bailey, Coco Jones, Megan Thee Stallion, Taraji P. Henson, Jorja Smith, Mary Mary, and more.

The Color Purple (Music From and Inspired By) will feature original compositions inspired by the film, along with songs performed in the Blitz Bazawule-directed movie. The end credit song is performed by Fantasia and written and produced by The-Dream.

Executive produced by Quincy Jones, Scott Sanders, and Larry Jackson of gamma, The Color Purple (Music From and Inspired By) is described as a culturally significant album that brings to life the reimagined classic. The release aims to complement the film’s narrative with contemporary songs, drawing inspiration from the iconic R&B/pop soundtracks of the 1990s.

While an official tracklist is yet to be revealed, The Color Purple, a musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel, will be released on December 25 in the U.S. and globally on January 18, 2024. The film, portraying a tale of love, resilience, and a woman’s journey to independence, stars Fantasia, Taraji P Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, Halle Bailey, Ciara, and H.E.R. among others.
