Maeta has carved out a unique space in the music scene with her blend of contemporary R&B, lounge jazz, and pop. Her captivating vocals first gained attention through a series of short projects, culminating in the 2020 track “Teen Scene,” produced by KAYTRANADA and featuring Buddy. This song was later featured in her debut release under Roc Nation, the Habits EP, in 2021. By 2023, Maeta had worked with artists like Ty Dolla $ign and Lucky Daye on her dynamic 13-track debut LP, When I Hear Your Name, which she intriguingly refers to as an EP. This body of work underscored her emerging influence and artistic growth.

KAYTRANADA, following his releases of Intimidated and Simple with IDK, continued to expand his repertoire. Last year, he teamed up with rapper Aminé for the album KAYTRAMINÉ, and recently dropped Timeless, featuring artists like Childish Gambino, Charlotte Day Wilson, and more, highlighting his eclectic production style. Shortly after, Maeta and KAYTRANADA collaborated to produce the unforgettable track “Endless Night.”

The opening track, “DJ Got Me,” is a masterclass in production, showcasing KAYTRANADA’s distinctive use of bass and drum layers, enhanced with cool synths that set the mood for the dance floor. Maeta’s vocals seamlessly blend with the rhythm as she sings about a DJ whose beats keep her moving all night. The theme of seeking connection and escape continues in the title track, where Maeta portrays love as a sanctuary from everyday worries. “Mustang Sally” introduces an energetic beat with a mysterious edge, while “Come Again,” featuring James Fauntleroy, explores the desire for reconciliation. The closing track, “Up All Night,” stands out as Maeta narrates the exhilaration of finding someone who makes time feel irrelevant. This project is meticulously crafted, balancing Maeta’s vocal prowess with innovative production, offering listeners a rich and engaging musical experience.
