Hailing from Cleveland, R&B powerhouse Durand Bernarr has just released his new visual EP, En Route. This project is a genre-bending compilation of his musical influences, serving as a transitional bridge between his sophomore album “Wanderlust” and his upcoming solo and collaborative releases. The eight-track EP, described as a road trip soundtrack, was crafted over five days at Spotify’s newly launched Coke Studio in Los Angeles, CA. Bernarr collaborated with long-time partners Sam Hoffman and Budda Foster, as well as Kay’ce Thompson and the renowned duo Louis York, consisting of Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony. The result is a rich tapestry of sounds and stories that reflect his journey as both an artist and a person.
En Route is a testament to Durand Bernarr’s evolution and expression, narrating personal stories while incorporating the eras, genres, cultures, instruments, and musical legends that inspire him. Bernarr’s playful and candid nature shines through in tracks like “Fist Bump,” which humorously addresses the perils of wearing designer clothes around friends who might leave makeup stains.
The visual for “Fist Bump” further brings this point to life. It opens with Bernarr struggling to find an unstained outfit, eventually opting for a white fur and feather ensemble that perfectly matches his flamboyant personality. As he performs the song for a crowd of friends, including YouTube personality Terrell Grice, Bernarr navigates the room with ease and humor, ensuring his outfit remains pristine. This blend of music and visual storytelling showcases Durand Bernarr’s unique ability to blend humor with heartfelt expression, making “En Route” a must-listen for fans and newcomers alike.
